Fundamentally, A-one+ is an unincorporated joint venture run by parent companies CH2M, Colas and Costain. As a result, each new recruit is employed by one of the parents to work in a cohesive team dedicated to providing an integrated highway engineering service that is at the forefront of our industry.

Internal communication and engagement is an integral part of living and breathing our company values. This strategy comprises of employee surveys, team briefings, newsletters, employee magazine, notice boards and intranet site. There are employee representative groups in each area working to improve processes, conditions and communication. To address the challenges of transition in new contract areas we have developed Transformational Change Management Groups to work through bespoke John Kotter eight step plan’s to effectively and supportively manage the journey of change.

A-one+ endorse recognition as a vital every day and formal tool to ensure praise and feedback is delivered to our teams. Here at A-one+ we have developed the ‘Grits’ an internal recognition system enabling employees to nominate individual colleagues and teams by way of a ‘thank you’ note or a formal nomination culminating in an annual awards ceremony. Being nominated and invites to these highly prestigious ceremonies are a highlight for many of the teams on the coal-face. Health and Wellbeing

As a team member, you make a difference within the A-one+ family. Therefore, we are compelled to improve your health and wellbeing wherever possible. For example, standard health checks are performed throughout the company, while healthy lifestyle events and initiatives are also arranged.

Stress is an important issue within this area, and A-one+ has previously raised awareness by participating in the European Week for Safety and Health at Work. This entailed staff being trained to look for stress symptoms in themselves and others.

Children in the Workplace

A-one+ has years of experience vising schools to promote engineering in learning. Well, there has now been an exciting evolution in this regard, with some workers able to take their own children to work.

On these rewarding days, children get to attend one of our offices and to view a presentation. While there, they also receive practical demonstrations of CAD design, traffic management and traffic signage control. Hopefully some will return for a career in
