A-one+ operates as an unincorporated joint venture between the parent companies of CH2M, Colas and Costain. Therefore, each new A-one+ staff member is officially employed by one of those companies when fulfilling their duties for this company.

Area 12 Yorkshire and Humberside.

Within our Area 12 asset support contract, covering the strategic road network in Yorkshire and Humberside we have a busy and sustainable workload operated from our base in Wakefield and at depots throughout the region. Our budget it circa £90 million including schemes up to £5 million in value delivered by a team of around 360 people.

Area 4 Kent and Sussex

Our Area 4 asset support is responsible for the motorways and key trunk roads in Kent, Sussex and small parts of Surrey and Hampshire.  The network includes  key international ports and airports including Gatwick, Channel Tunnel, Dover, Folkestone and Newhaven.

The diverse workforce of around 330 people are based at the head office, Kings Hill and at seven depots across our network within Kent and Sussex. We have frequent and on-going requirement for suitably skilled applicants to fulfil roles included in the Area 4 tab below.

Design Centre

The Design Centre supports programme development teams to deliver our Asset Support Contracts (ACS) in Area 12 and Area 4 producing highway and structures scheme designs. This increased capacity enables us to support Highways England as we head towards increased investment of the Strategic Road Network.

Duties include; developing agreed client options into schemes that maintain the strategic road network from initial feasibility through to pricing. The Design Centre also has the capability to produce traffic management design.

Network Call Center Controller A12

We are looking to appoint a network call centre controller to deliver incident response, winter and severe weather response, maintenance and road space management services via a 24/7 network control centre.

You will need to establish good working relationships with Highways England customer operations, the regional control centre,  Highways England service delivery team, emergency services and other key stakeholders. You will be based at our Normanton office in Wakefield reporting to the resilience and severe weather manager

Your main responsibilities include;

Delivering effective and timely co-ordination of response to network incidents

Efficient recording of information relating to incidents

Ensuring commercial objectives are met

Maximising resource deployment to meet contractual performance requirements

Making sure we are complying with business processes and procedures

You will need to; have a good understanding of health, safety and environment, establish and maintain productive working relationships across a number of stakeholders and ensure accuracy of incident data and resource management.

Structures Technician – Design Centre

As structures technician based in our Darlingon office you will deliver cost effective, innovative and technical design solutions to maintain or improve the strategic road network on behalf of Highways England. You will work to agreed budget, programme and quality, whilst considering the needs of the client and key stakeholders.

Person specification.

  • HNC/HND civil engineering or equivalent experience
  • working towards membership of appropriate professional body (ICE, IStructE)

Main responsibilities

·       Promote health, safety and wellbeing.

·       Undertake CDM responsibilities under role of designer on scheme designs, ensuring the principles of risk reduction are implemented on all schemes and at all stages of design.

·       Will demonstrate commitment to A-one+ values by treating colleagues, customers (internal & external) and members of the general public, with fairness, respect & dignity at all times.

·       Support the design lead.

·       Working as part of the integrated delivery team (IDT) including close liaison with other teams within A-one+ to ensure successful delivery of schemes.

·       To work within the given briefs, programmes and budgets and to advise the design lead and IDT if this cannot be achieved.

·       Deliver schemes to programme and budget and report on progress on a regular basis and forecast progress and costs including preparation of designs, reports, specifications and other deliverables for their schemes.

·       Detailed development and design of schemes including drawings, reports and calculations, in accordance with the Highways England standards including the DMRB, IANs and MCHW.

·       Seek innovation in the delivery of schemes and techniques used to design and construct them.

·       Working in accordance with the A-one+ Integrated Business Management System (IBMS), ensuring that all designs follow the relevant processes and procedures.

·       Ensure that any relevant databases are kept up to date.

·       Apply Lean techniques in the design process through collaborative meetings and continuous improvement.

  • degree qualified (or experienced) engineer with knowledge of programming and resourcing design phase for civil engineering projects
  • Chartered Engineer; Member of ICE, IStructE
  • proficient Autocad user
  • excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes
  • appropriate CSCS accreditation

Main responsibilities

·       Promote health, safety and wellbeing.
