Area 12 Yorkshire and Humberside.
Within our Area 12 asset support contract, covering the strategic road network in Yorkshire and Humberside we have a busy and sustainable workload operated from our base in Wakefield and at depots throughout the region. Our budget it circa £90 million including schemes up to £5 million in value delivered by a team of around 360 people.
The Design Centre supports programme development teams to deliver our Asset Support Contracts (ACS) in Area 12 and Area 4 producing highway and structures scheme designs. This increased capacity enables us to support Highways England as we head towards increased investment of the Strategic Road Network.
Duties include; developing agreed client options into schemes that maintain the strategic road network from initial feasibility through to pricing. The Design Centre also has the capability to produce traffic management design.

We’re seeking a full-time permanent communications manager to support our strategy for enhancing customer experience. You will be working across our design and delivery teams and alongside our client Highways England to deliver continuously improving stakeholder communications to road users and communities where we work in Yorkshire and Humber.
You will help improve communications about our maintenance and project activities, this will include: planning, developing and supporting communication and engagement campaigns and strategies. You will support our design and delivery teams to develop enhanced communications plans using the most appropriate channels to widen the reach and help Highways England achieve their communication objectives.
You will also be responsible for internal newsletters and other communication activities, external PR, good news story sharing, maintaining our digital media channels, drafting and submitting awards and producing and editing graphics as well as managing our brand and style guidelines.
You should have excellent communication skills and preferably a degree level qualification in a related discipline.
You will report to the programme delivery manager in the heart of our project design and delivery team, you will have no direct reports but will receive support from asset and design teams.
An understanding of highways or construction maintenance is desirable but not essential.
