Area 12 Yorkshire and Humberside.

Within our Area 12 asset support contract, covering the strategic road network in Yorkshire and Humberside we have a busy and sustainable workload operated from our base in Wakefield and at depots throughout the region. Our budget it circa £90 million including schemes up to £5 million in value delivered by a team of around 360 people.

Area 4 Kent and Sussex

Our Area 4 asset support is responsible for the motorways and key trunk roads in Kent, Sussex and small parts of Surrey and Hampshire.  The network includes  key international ports and airports including Gatwick, Channel Tunnel, Dover, Folkestone and Newhaven.

The diverse workforce of around 330 people are based at the head office, Kings Hill and at seven depots across our network within Kent and Sussex. We have frequent and on-going requirement for suitably skilled applicants to fulfil roles included in the Area 4 tab below.

Design Centre

The Design Centre supports programme development teams to deliver our Asset Support Contracts (ACS) in Area 12 and Area 4 producing highway and structures scheme designs. This increased capacity enables us to support Highways England as we head towards increased investment of the Strategic Road Network.

Duties include; developing agreed client options into schemes that maintain the strategic road network from initial feasibility through to pricing. The Design Centre also has the capability to produce traffic management design.

Senior Structures Engineer Area 12

We are looking for an experienced structures engineer based in or near WF6. You will be in a senior role already or eager and ready to progress. Working with our vibrant programme development team you will deliver initial and detailed design stages for an exciting portfolio of schemes working to deadlines and budget.

Responsibilities will include ensuring that schemes are fit and ready for construction, maintenance and demolition stages, working primarily on structures renewals but you may also work on roads renewals, improvement, technology, resilience, depot and designated fund schemes expanding your knowledge and expertise.

 Reporting to the structures design team leader there is potential responsibility for managing a small number of engineers and technicians designing schemes.

 Your base will be at our Area 12 office in Normanton, Wakefield with site visits throughout the network area.

 Main Responsibilities

 Health, Safety & Environment – Maintain compliance with all health, safety and environmental policies and procedures

  • Ensure that safety is maintained as number one priority at all times

  • Carry out CDM designer duties on scheme designs, ensuring the principles of risk reduction are implemented on all schemes and at all stages of design.

Technical/Management – Design of schemes including drawings, reports and calculations, in accordance with client standards including the DMRB, IANs and MCHW.

  • Checking of low risk design drawings, documents, reports and calculations.
  • Working as part of the Integrated Delivery Team including close liaison with other teams across the business to ensure successful delivery of schemes.
  • Detailed preparation of Departures from Standard and Technical Approvals with appropriate liaison with client technical teams.
  • Preparation of other reports and documents to support scheme development such as Project Appraisal Reports (PARs) and Temporary Traffic Regulations Orders (TTROs).

Commercial – Identify opportunities for efficiencies and savings throughout the whole delivery process.

People – Support the development, valuing and respecting of colleagues and peers.

  • Providing technical advice and guidance for less experienced members of the design team, promoting a culture of technical excellence and mentoring engineers/technicians/apprentices.

Safety and Sustainability Advisor (Environmental) Area 12

Our Wakefield office is looking for someone with a passion for safety, health and environment with an understanding of best practice in environmental management. You will be well organised, able to communicate well and work on your own initiative. You will enjoy a challenge, have a strong determination to succeed and enjoy coaching and presenting to inspire others.

Ideally you will have the relevant academic and professional qualifications along with a full UK driving license and be eligible to work in the UK.

 As safety and sustainability advisor you will support the safety, health and environment team with the effective and efficient running of environmental management and sustainability aspects of our Integrated Business Management System. You will help advise, promote and implement safe and sustainable environmental management best practice.

Reporting to our safety, health and environment manager; your responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Understand our company safety, health and environmental (SHE) policies and processes and statutory requirements and how they affect the company operations ensuring that the requirements are implemented.
  • Assist in/or directly provide advice on the practical implementation of the company SHE policies and processes
  • Assist SHE manager and contract management in understanding stakeholder (internal and external) aims, priorities and risks with regards to SHE
  • Assist in providing operational and functional management with advice on the prevention of accidents, incidents and ill health
  • Assist with, and where necessary, provide advice and guidance for obtaining legal consents, licenses and exemptions such as discharge consents, abstraction licenses and waste management licenses as and when required and as directed.
  • Assist the SHE Manager and other members of the SHE team, in key tasks to assist in the development, management, implementation and monitoring of the Safety, Health and Environmental Management System.
  • To assist the SHE team providing 24hr cover 365 days a year
  • Assist SHE Manager, CDM Assurance Manager and contract management in establishing, managing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders such as local authorities, HSE, EA, and others as required and directed
  • Assist with and undertake SHE advisory visit, inspections and audits where required of operational sites. Participate, as requested in company audits.

Quantity Surveyor Area 4

A-one+ Area 4 is an integrated highways provider responsible for the motorways and key trunk roads in Kent, Sussex and small parts of Surrey and Hampshire.  The network includes several key international ports and airports including Gatwick, Channel Tunnel, Dover, Folkestone and Newhaven.  Area 4 contains the following roads and assets: A2, A20, A21, A23, A26, A259, A2070 (A249), M2, M20, M23

About the role

We are looking for a quantity surveyor to participate in all aspects of scheme delivery , forecasting, including target pricing and the payment of supply chain.  Responsible for multiple schemes.  The role involves liaising with scheme design and delivery teams, attending meetings where necessary to understand scheme requirements and objectives.
