New Apprentice Scheme
A-one+ preparing to welcome 2 starters as part of the new safety, health and environment (SHE) technician apprenticeshp scheme.
A new scheme launched this week specifially for trainees to undertake a safety, health and environment technician apprenticeship. This is the first specially designed course of its kind in England.
The SHE technician apprenticeship is a level 3 qualification, equivalent to 2 A Levels and on completion the apprentices will be able to join IOSH at TechIOSH level as a safety, health and environment professional.
The scheme was pioneered by a working group consisting of several major construction companies including one of our parent company’s Costain and supported by IOSH, to ensure future competency in an industry where technology is having high-impact on working practices and risk.

The course was approved earlier this year and the first 20 started last week. A further 160 are due to begin over the coming months including 2 for A-one+ in Area 4 starting in September, where they will play an integral role in ensuring delivery of our safety, health and environment strategy ‘WISHES’ and retaining our zero accident frequency rate.
The apprentices will learn how to develop, review and check on the implementation of safe systems of work, deliver training, investigate incidents, analyse data and present findings. Time will be divided between office and field work and learning how to provide advice to others to prevent harm.

We look forward to meeting our new SHE apprentices in September and learning more about this new apprenticeship and the benefits it will bring for the future.
