The annual Highways Awards 2017 (formerly Highways Magazine Awards) took place on 18 October and A-one+ came away category winners once more.
We were shortlisted for three categories on the night. Team of the Year, Product of the Year and Highway Maintenance Efficiency.
Our Team of the Year entry was recognised as one of only a handful of Highly Commended submissions on the evening with our ‘One Team Approach’. This involved A-one+, Highways England and 11 sub-contractors co-ordinating an effective and safe, clear up operation in the aftermath of the M20 footbridge collapse. Customers were back using the road and keeping the economy moving 18 hours earlier than expected. The judges commented this “Demonstrated an impressive response to a major incident; a real time effort”.
Our success continues as we are announced as winners of the Highway Maintenance Efficiency category, recognising the Area 12 ASC programme delivery successful transition from a Managing Agent Contract (MAC) to an Asset Support Contract (ASC), tackling the challenges of better whole life cost design solutions and increased productivity using lean principles and delivering strong cost efficiencies for the client. The judges commented “Very impressive lean initiative taking a whole life cost approach”.
The awards were held at the Lancaster Royal London with representatives from across the sector both contractor, client and industry body. The shortlisted entries and winners, announced by TV personality Julia Bradbury, reflect best practice across the industry and demonstrate the interesting and essential projects taking place throughout the UK that provide essential services for safety, security and prosperity.
This latest win takes our tally for the year into double figures and up to a total of ten. The continued recognition demonstrates the strength and depth throughout A-one+ with the right culture in place to drive safe and efficient solutions for sustainable delivery.
