Three parent companies have an equal share in the A-one+ joint venture. Each parent brings an invaluable set of capabilities. By coming together as one, the rise of A-one+ has been a resounding success thanks to their commitment.
Brief introduction of each parent company.
In 2003, CH2M explored a specialism in traffic engineering and road maintenance by setting up A-one with Colas as a joint venture. In December 2017 CH2M combined with Jacobs.
Like CH2M, Jacobs is one of the largest and most diverse providers of technical, professional and construction services, including all aspects of architecture, engineering and construction, operations and maintenance, as well as scientific and specialty.
Colas was the other founding partner in the initial joint venture, with the new company winning a Highways England contract to manage 300km of motorways and trunk roads in North East England. Both parent companies experienced yet more success in the following years.
Within the joint venture, Colas brings a more specific skill set especially in the area of self delivery, having won awards for the creation of sustainable engineering solutions to support the UK’s transport infrastructure. To create durable, environmentally friendly solutions, Colas invests more than £50 million a year on research and development.
Costain also works for a sustainable future by providing national engineering and technology solutions to the core sectors of energy, water and transportation. In this joint venture, Costain has been able to use its technology-led strengths to focus on highway engineering to a greater extent than ever.
Several years into the operation, Costain became part of this joint venture in July 2009. In doing so, Costain helped the company win Highways England’s £147 million Area 14 contract as the newly named A-one+.
