Introduction

A-one maintains an Integrated Business Management System (IBMS) that is the foundation for all our business activities. In October 2004, after only 15 months of our current contract, we received the BSi registrations for our fully integrated business management system to IS9001:2000, ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001.
This was an outstanding achievement, achieving not only all three standards in one assessment but also receiving an integrated management system certificate of registration. This was only achievable through having a dedicated, enthusiatc, "can do" team of people who are the driving force of A-one. Not everyone is familiar with the meanings of the different standards and how they interact with them during their daily work activities, but the information on the next page will hopefully give you some guidance.
The Integrated Business management System (IBMS)
- incorporates ISO9001:2000 (Quality Management) registration to give assurance of a sustainable high quality service to our customers, supply chain and other interested parties, using various quality management principles.
- incorporates ISO14001 (Environmental Management) registration to demonstrate that A-one is identifying, where possible, and controlling the aspects and impacts of its activities on the environment, including those of its supply chain.
- incorporates OHSAS 18001 (Health & Safety Management) to adopt a structured approach to the identification and evaluation of hazards and risks. Then put in place appropriate controls, where required, to ensure safe working methods.
Processes, procedures, forms, databases and other documents have all been developed within A-one to describe and manage the essential activities within our business. Anyone within A-one can make suggestions for improvements, either by contacting document owners or by contacting the Quality Manager, who is always keen to listen to your ideas.
A-one is continually improving through the use of forums (health, safety, environment, innovations, watchman), internal and external audits, reviews, and feedback from staff, supply chain and the Highways Agency.
