On 1st July 2010 A-one+ started the new Area 14 contract worth £147 million over 5 years, following the previous successful 7 year contract as A-one.
The network covers around 300km of motorway and trunk road in the North East and covers the A1 and A1(M) from Dishforth in North Yorkshire to the Scottish Border north of Berwick, the A66 and A66(M) from Stockton-on-Tees to the Cumbrian Border, the A19 north of the River Tyne, and the A696, A194(M), and A184 on Tyneside.
Over 260 full-time directly employed people provide a full range of innovative infrastructure management, maintenance, and improvement services. When required, they are supported by additional people from our fully integrated supply chain partners.
We operate out of two principle offices and six depots across the north east of England. Our main office is in Darlington with a satellite office at Kneeton. In addition, we have a Network Control Centre based in Wakefield.
Here are a few of the achievements we have to be proud of:
we have resurfaced 310 lane kilometres of carriageway
planted 22,600 trees, 4,520metres of hedgerow, and 422,500 wild flowers
erected 271 bat boxes, 366 bird boxes, and 4,500 metres of otter fencing
processed 14,175 road space booking entries
dealt with 14,680 incidents
assisted with 29,383 abnormal load movements
collected and disposed of 50,519 bags of litter.
Going forward we have a lot of reasons to be confident and optimistic about the future and we are dedicated to continue delivering a first class service to the Highways Agency.
