The Area 12 contract has an estimated value of £200m and commenced on 1st October 2009, initially for five years, with an option to extend it by a further two years.
It contains 354km of motorways and 349km of trunk roads in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, from Leeds to Kingston-upon-Hull, Grimsby to Woodall and Scarborough to Saddleworth, the highest motorway in Great Britain.
The main routes of the Area 12 network are the A1, M1, M62, M18, M180, and A64.
The following are a few things we have achieved since the start of the contract:
- dealt with the most severe winter for 31 years
- carried out environmental schemes including improvements to water vole habitats, installation of otter ledges, and ecological enhancements to balancing ponds
- achieved the highest rating for the annual Area Safety Action Plan
- been rated Highly Satisfactory by the Highways Agency for our health and safety performance
- consistently obtained good results in contract audits
- introduced a company-wide plant allocation system which is now in place and operating very effectively
Going forward, we are more than well equipped to deal with whatever problems are thrown our way. With our dedication, our people, and our main focus being on safety, we are sure the year ahead of us will be as successful.
