Building on the outstanding success of the A-one joint venture company working in Area 14 and enhanced by the expertise of Costain, A-one+ was successfully appointed as the new Managing Agent Contractor (MAC) for the Highways Agency Area 10 in 2007. This contract, which commenced on 5th November 2007 and with an overall estimated value of approximately £275m, will run for 5 years.

As Managing Agent Contractor for Area 10, we are responsible for the day-to-day operational management and maintenance of the motorway and trunk road network.

The Area 10 MAC is one of the largest, busiest, and increasingly trafficked road networks in the UK. Located in the North West of England it comprises some 500km of motorway and trunk road carriageway and over 2500 structures, throughout Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, and the southern parts of Lancashire.

The Area 10 network carries the highest volumes of traffic outside London and comprises several strategic routes, such as the north-south M6, the M60 Manchester Outer Ring Road and the east-west M56 and M62, both of which form part of the Trans European network.

We are responsible for the day-to-day operational management and maintenance of the motorway and trunk road network. This also includes:

• provision of routine, winter and incident response services
• design and construction of maintenance and improvement schemes up to £500,000 in value
• design, co-ordination and supervision of maintenance and improvement schemes valued between £500,000 and £5 million
• fulfilling the role of Principal Contractor for works procured through a Construction Management Framework (CMF).
